Operation Warm Shelter

When temperatures drop or severe weather is predicted, the Durham Rescue Mission launches “Operation Warm Shelter.” During these times of crisis, the homeless are extremely at-risk for hyperthermia, frostbite, and even death. Our residents canvas the streets, looking for those in need, warning them of the impending weather, and inviting them to come. Also, our church bell rings every hour as a warning and welcome. Many have found a safe shelter during Operation Warm Shelter and shared how it saved their life during severe weather.
