Testimony of Rebecca
"I finally let Christ lead me Straight to the Durham Rescue
Mission!"
Several years ago, I was a college student on the right track. With a
double major and about 15 years of dance training behind me, I headed to
New York City to pursue a performing arts career. While in New York, I
stayed with some relatives who already were well established in the
theater world. Despite the glitzy parties and glamorous lifestyle I was
leading, I could find no lasting happiness.
Shortly after I returned from New York, I became pregnant. God had been
trying to get a hold of me for a long time, but I just kept on running.
Now, I was facing a situation where I truly needed God's help to get me
through. I went to a crisis pregnancy center and ended up committing my
life to Christ.
Later, I found out about the Durham Rescue Mission through a friend.
Ready to make some positive changes in my life, I came here to gain
computer skills, meet other single parents, and refocus my life in
Christ. The devotions class with Mrs. Woodard was especially helpful to
me, because it promotes biblical change, as was the time spent in Bible
classes learning God's word.
I am excited about moving to the Good Samaritan Inn in October, and all
that God is going to do. The Lord is sustaining me daily through this
program and keeps bringing to mind Philippians 4:13, “I can do all
things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” God is changing my
priorities from those of the material world to those of Christ on a
daily basis, and that is due to the faithfulness of the staff of the
Durham Rescue Mission.
I am especially grateful for the supporters of the Durham Rescue
Mission. Without you, it would have been difficult for my baby girl and
me to find a safe place to stay. God bless all of you. You are heroes!
