Testimony of Robin StackhouseAll My Worldly Possessions Were of No Value
It has been a real blessing to be at the Durham Rescue Mission. I’ve never doubted that God brought me here, even though I was a little reluctant at first. Once I walked through those mission gates, Christ gave me absolute assurance of His leading me here. I had given my life to Jesus on July 4, 1995. A few years later, I formed my own business, and for a while, things went very well. Then I began to lose customers for no apparent reason. As my business began to fall apart, I began to suffer from depression. I didn’t know what to do. What I really wanted was to keep my business and go to school to be taught the word of God, but how? Out of my depression, I asked God to help me, and He directed me to the Durham Rescue Mission. I was reluctant at first, but today I am so thankful. My first night at the mission, I asked God what He was trying to teach me. I called my cousin and asked, “What is God trying to show me?” She said, “Jesus wants to bless you.” Since I have been here, Christ has blessed me with spiritual blessings I’d never thought possible (Eph 3:20). God has given me grace to see Him work in my life every single day; whether it would be saying I’m sorry for something I’ve said or done, to loving people who can be unlovable, or to praying for others, my family, and those who are in authority. God has also helped me in relationships with people. The relationships are now rebuilt from a spiritual and Biblical perspective. Jesus has given me the gift of faith. There is no doubt that He is a faithful and loving God. Christ has given me a love that, before I got saved, I had never known. I’d like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Mills for being obedient to God’s word and having the vision. Also, I would like to thank Mrs. Woodard for being a friend and my counselor. I must also thank Mrs. Nolfo and Mrs. Pleasants for your smiles, laughter, and patience. And I would like to thank you, a friend and supporter of the Durham Rescue Mission. Without your prayers and support, I would not have received the help I needed. Because of you, I got my life back. I hope to go back to school and study music, and I am praying God will use me in ministry someday. Even though I have graduated, I am excited about the future of the Good Samaritan Inn, where many more women like me will be able to get the help they need.
