Frequently Asked Questions
About Funding and DonationsQ: How is the Durham Rescue Mission funded?A: We are funded by individuals, businesses, civic groups, and churches. See Funding. Q: Can I donate online using my credit card?A: Yes, we accept MasterCard and Visa. See Donate Now. Q: Are all gifts to the Durham Rescue Mission tax-deductible?A: All gifts to the Durham Rescue Mission are deductible as allowed by law, provided that no goods or services have been received by the donor. Q: When I make a financial donation, will I receive a tax receipt?A: Yes. Once your gift is received in our office, it will be processed and a receipt will be mailed to you within three business days. During the holidays, you may notice a slight delay. NOTE: Please retain all receipts for your tax records. Q: What about end-of-the-year gifts?A: For a gift to be credited as a tax deduction in the current year, it must be in our office by December 31 or postmarked by December 31. All gifts received after December 31, and not postmarked December 31, will be counted as a gift in the new year. Q: How can I remember someone with a special gift?A: See Honorarium or Memorial. Q: What is the deadline for having a gift recognized in your monthly newsletter?A: We prepare most of our own mailings, so we must begin two months prior to mailing our newsletter. If you would like to remember someone special or sponsor a day (see Operation Daily Bread), please have the gift and information to us two months prior to the month you wish for it to be listed. For more information, please call our office manager, Kristi Zimmerman, at (919) 688-9641, ext. 5024, or e-mail her at Kristi.Zimmerman@durhamrescuemission.com. Q: What is "Operation Daily Bread"?A: Operation Daily Bread is a program that allows a friend of the mission to sponsor a day's operating expense at our Men's Division and/or Women, Children, and Families' Division. The sponsorship is listed in our monthly newsletter and on our marquee signs. It is a great way to remember a special person or event. See Operation Daily Bread. If you are interested in donating stocks or other properties, please call Gail Mills at (919) 688-9641, ext. 5028, or e-mail her at Gail.Mills@durhamrescuemission.com. Q: How can I remember the Durham Rescue Mission in my will and estate planning?A: First, you should discuss your wishes with your family. Then, contact your lawyer. See Other Ways to Give Support. Q: How can I get a receipt for donated goods or services?A: We are happy to provide tax receipts for donated goods or services, upon request.
