Lives Transformed through Mission's Victory Program

On September 1st, excitement flowed through the campus of the Durham Rescue Mission’s Mens Division. Family and friends gathered to celebrate with the six men who graduated the Mission’s Victory Program. The Victory Program is a one year program that encompasses biblical training and counseling for individuals whose lives were once consumed with addiction and turmoil. The program also offers computer training, educational instruction, job placement, and transitional housing.

The graduation was a touching experience for all those in attendence. Many families who were once torn apart, united and were present to show their love and support for the new men who stood before them in caps and gowns. The service was filled with joy and smiles. The Victory Choir delighted the audience with their melodious singing, and certificates were awarded to the graduates with their families gathered around them. Also, Pastor Charles Churchhill delivered a challenge message to encourage all of the graduates to continue to move forward in a positive direction with their lives.

The graduates include: William Brown, Terry Ferris, Samuel Gordon, Robert Hollins, Rodney Lewis, Delaner Venable, and Michael White.

Through the course of one year, transformation has occurred in the lives of the graduates in a magnificent way. Delaner Venable, now Assistant Volunteer Coordinator in the Mission’s Apprenticeship Program, battled through an addiction which enslaved him to alcohol for years of his life. Delaner’s goal now is to “make Jesus happy for the rest of his life”. Terry Ferris also battled through an addiction to alcohol, and is now an Encourager at the Men’s Division, using his testimony to help other men with their stuggles. Sam Gordon, Head Supervisor, has reunited with his wife and child. Robert Hollins, William Brown, and Michael White are all gainfully employed and striving to make positive steps to move forward with their lives. Rodney Lewis is now employed and even united in matrimony one day before the graduation! It’s amazing how the Lord has worked and continues to transform all of the graduate’s lives to be used for His glory.

All of our graduates would like to say a special “Thank You” to  our donors, supporters, and friends. Without you, their lives would still be broken and shattered.
