12,000 Toys Given to Needy Children
Durham Rescue Mission’s Annual Christmas Dinner Wrap-up

The Durham Rescue Mission hosted its 37th annual Christmas Dinner and Toy give away on Friday, December 23rd, 2011. Volunteers started cooking 120 turkeys and 40 hams at 10PM the night before to help feed the thousands that attended.

We would like to thank all the volunteers that helped make this possible. It is wonderful to see needy children in the community walk away smiling with toys they may not have been able to receive. This was made possible by the tremendous generosity of companies and individuals in the community.

Event Wrap-Up Statistics

3,410 people attended this event – including 552 volunteers!

12,000 toys were distributed to the children and we ran out

2,512 meals served and 1,500 Jimmy Johns Mini Subs

1,200 bags of groceries given to needy families

9,843 articles of warm winter clothing were provided to those in need

We would like to thank the media for helping us get the word out about the needs we had for this event and letting those in need know that all of this was available for them.
