On the 3rd Thursday in August (August 15, 2013), the Durham Rescue Mission hosts a free Annual Back to School Party and Backpack Give-Away. During this event, we serve hot dogs, give away free clothing, free groceries, and free backpacks and school supplies for children accompanied by an adult.  The day is filled with fun activities for children.

Need Help?

If you need help preparing your children for school or you are homeless, we invite you to join us at 1201 East Main Street, Durham, North Carolina, for our Back to School Party.  The date will be listed on our Calendar.

Volunteer!

The Durham Rescue Mission needs volunteers to help with our Back to School Party.  Volunteer opportunities include: setting up the event site; cooking the meal; serving the meal; giving away clothing; giving away groceries; giving away Backpacks with school supplies to at-risk children 12 and under; and cleaning up after the event.
