Women's and Children's Programs
The number of homeless women and children continues to rise.
Many have become dependent on the welfare system or they are trying to make it by living on the streets, in cars, or abandoned buildings.
Why are we seeing an increase in the number of women and children seeking shelter at the Durham Rescue Mission? There are many reasons such as alcohol and drug use, domestic abuse, lack of marketable job skills, increase in the cost of living, and the list goes on. The fact is there are women and children living in cars, abandoned buildings, and on the streets in the Triangle.
At the Durham Rescue Mission's Good Samaritan Inn, women, mothers with children, and families find a compassionate, Christian environment. Women find counsel from the Word of God to help them overcome their addictions and other problems.
In addition, women and children can expect to find:
- safe shelter
- three meals a day
- clean clothing
- daycare
- colorful playground
- vocational training
- parental/housekeeping instruction
- financial planning
- biblical counsel to help overcome addictions and other problems
- employment assistance
Many women are struggling to provide for themselves and their children on minimum wage. Their monthly wages cannot pay for rent, utilities, car and insurance payments, buy food, and make ends meet. Our goal is to help women learn marketable job skills and then help them find a decent paying job, allowing them to provide a good home for their families.
If you know a woman or a mother with a child or children in need, please call (919) 688-9641, ext. 5050.
If you would like to help provide for women and children, please consider making a financial contribution today.
